Rep. Mari-Lynn Poskin for House District 20

Updated: Oct 19

We’ve endorsed incumbent Rep. Mari-Lynn Poskin for re-election to House District 20. HD 20 is on the northeast side of Blue Valley and extends north into Shawnee Mission; it includes BVN High School in its boundaries.

Mari-Lynn Poskin was first elected in 2020. She won against a Koch-backed candidate who had defeated Blue Valley’s highly-regarded HD 20 Representative, Jan Kessinger, in the Republican primary that year. Poskin was re-elected in 2022, defeating a candidate who was a member of, and backed by, Moms for Liberty.

In the legislature, Poskin has voted to fund Blue Valley Schools and has worked with our School Board and district administrators to learn what they need from KsLeg to provide the excellent quality BV is known for. She has voted against tax money going to private schools, and has not supported NRA-backed school curriculum. She serves on the House Committee on Education.

Poskin sponsored successful legislation to double appropriations to the Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship. Recipients of the scholarship agree to teach for a year in Kansas for every year they receive the scholarship. Given the current teacher-shortage crisis, Poskin’s legislation is designed to benefit our students and their schools both now, and in years to come.

Poskin’s family moved to Blue Valley over 20 years ago for the schools. She has extensive experience working in higher education, and she currently owns her own business providing college planning services to local families. Poskin regularly participates in legislator events, such as Town Halls, to stay in touch with her constituents. She is also an active volunteer in the community.

Poskin’s opponent makes the false claim on his campaign website that Poskin “insists on keeping more of your money with higher taxes” - when, in fact, Poskin voted with the bipartisan majority this June to pass a compromise tax bill that will provide an estimated $1.2 Billion in tax cuts over three years: https://sunflowerstatejournal.com/legislature-passes-compromise-tax-bill-that-governor-will-sign/

His website includes the alarming statement, “Schools should not be medically treating children without parental consent.” We don’t know what that means, because that is NOT happening. Scare tactics and outright lies are NOT what District 20 voters want to hear from a candidate for office!

House District 20 voters, be sure your family and neighbors know to vote FOR our kids’ Blue Valley Schools by voting for Mari-Lynn Poskin.
