We’ve documented 11 key votes taken between 2019 and 2023 by both State Sen. Cindy Holscher (who we’ve endorsed since 2016) and Sen. Kellie Warren (who we have NEVER endorsed, nor has the other parent-led public education advocacy group in Warren’s own district, Education First Shawnee Mission).
Three separate times, Warren voted FOR voucher schemes, or expansion of voucher programs that are already in place, while Holscher voted against. Remember, there’s NO public oversight of voucher funds in Kansas, so that’s money being sent into a black hole instead of being directed to state public services.
Warren supported three irresponsible tax cuts that would have resulted in Brownback-style downstream revenue shortages, inevitably underfunding public schools. Holscher voted NO on each.
Warren voted to require schools to use NRA curriculum. She voted to use federal COVID funds NOT as intended, but to fill budget gaps. These COVID funds were issued to augment student pandemic learning-loss, so Warren’s effort to redirect funding away from kids is particularly egregious. Holscher voted NO and NO.
Warren voted TWICE to make it harder for you to vote (as well as military members, college students, and disabled voters). Holscher voted NO on these voter suppression measures.
Warren claims to support public schools, but these votes tell another story. Blue Valley Sen. Cindy Holscher has proven her support with her votes. A list of sources is at the end of the post.
Kellie Warren and her backers have even claimed that she “worked with” Gov. Kelly - while she has worked AGAINST the governor’s centrist agenda at every opportunity! Gov. Kelly has unequivocally stated that Warren’s campaign claims are NOT true, and has endorsed Warren’s opponent, Karen Thurlow.
Sen. 11 voters MUST elect Karen Thurlow, an experienced attorney and longtime BV-area resident who will NOT support vouchers; who will vote for RESPONSIBLE and FAIR tax cuts after ensuring state budget obligations are met. Thurlow will NOT toe the NRA line as Warren has (to earn an “A” rating, that’s the requirement) and she will support voting rights for all Kansas citizens.
