House District 8 members sent us photos of this mailer they recently received, saying “Chris Croft sure has a lot of nerve with these claims!”
Chris Croft voted AGAINST our kids’ education when he voted FOR voucher schemes in 2019, 2021, and 2023. (SB 16, SB 175, HSub SB 83)
Croft voted to DECREASE funding for our neighborhood public schools when he voted for irresponsibly large tax cuts (favoring ultra-rich taxpayers) that would have resulted in Brownback-style revenue plummets and downstream school funding CUTS. (SB 22 in 2019, Flat tax in 2023) In a recently-released statement Croft made when talking to fellow Republicans, he said their goal is “reducing the corporate tax rate overall with the intent to drive it to zero.” Just imagine the disastrous cuts to our public schools’ budgets - not to mention the entire state - if that happened! Was this what Croft’s constituents asked for, or what his Americans for Prosperity (AFP) backers told him to do?
Croft voted AGAINST Gov. Laura Kelly in 2023 when he voted to override her veto of the Flat Tax. In Gov. Kelly’s words, the Flat Tax would “take us back to an era of chronically underfunded schools, four-day school weeks, crumbling roads and bridges and crippling debt.” (The override failed, thankfully.)
Croft voted AGAINST ensuring all kids succeed when he voted in 2019 for a bill that would have eliminated the state’s responsibility to fund excess SpEd costs. This was particularly harmful to Blue Valley, as the district has a large population of students receiving SpEd services. He refused to vote for SpEd funding AGAIN in 2022, when Kansas had a budget surplus of $3 BILLION. (SB 16; HB 2512 amendment)
So, despite the Republican Party’s false claims that Croft supports public education, we give Croft an F when it comes to his votes that impact our kids and their neighborhood schools.
House District 8 voters have an excellent choice in Pam Shernuk, who WILL vote to support our kids and their Blue Valley Schools in the legislature. Read more about Shernuk: www.standupbluevalley.org/post/pam-shernuk-for-kansas-house-district-8
