A new dark-money organization is spending tens of thousands of dollars sending campaign mailers and texts for voucher-supporting candidates Kellie Warren and TJ Rose.
Like Americans For Prosperity, Liberty First Project, Inc. is organized in a way that they are NOT required to reveal who funds them.
What are their motives?
From their website:
“Liberty First Project is an effort dedicated to promoting liberty and freedom in the state of Kansas, including the time-honored principles of limited government, individual liberty, free enterprise, and traditional values. Included within these broad spheres are a number of issues that are before or likely to before the legislature, including Educational Freedom & School Choice.”
So...an organization dedicated to VOUCHERS (“Educational Freedom & School Choice” is code for vouchers) is sending multiple mailers and texts claiming that Warren and Rose “support funding schools” and put “students first.”
WHICH schools do they support funding?
WHICH students will these candidates put first?
In her 6 years in office, Kellie Warren has voted for massive Brownback-style tax cuts which would inevitably cut public school funding as revenue dries up. That’s the opposite of keeping schools fully funded - as Liberty First claims! Warren has also voted for voucher-style programs that would TAKE tax money from public schools and GIVE it to private schools (which wouldn’t be required to educate all students, be accountable for how the money is spent, or report test scores).
Candidate TJ Rose is running against local business executive Jason Anderson; although he refused to come out and answer the question, Rose voiced support for voucher schemes in the Sept. 25 Johnson County Post candidate forum. Rose’s website talks about “parental control” and “creating a free market in education” - familiar voucher-speak language. We have endorsed Jason Anderson in this critical KS Senate 35 race.

Blue Valley residents should be alarmed that Liberty First Project, dedicated to promoting SCHOOL CHOICE, is spending tens of thousands of $$$ in our community, trying to sway voters. Liberty First Project knows Blue Valley voters want fully funded public schools and legislators who truly support public education, so of course that’s what they’re telling you about Warren and Rose.
It’s a false narrative, as demonstrated by Warren’s repeated votes against Blue Valley students and our community.
When candidates show you who they really are - believe them. Our endorsed candidates are the ones who will truly support our neighborhood public schools.
Early in-person voting starts Sat., Oct. 19. See our endorsements and voting info here: https://www.standupbluevalley.org/
